Mim's boo boo

We had quite an adventurous day last Saturday - just one day after Miriam's 2nd birthday. We were going to celebrate as a family, but instead ended up in the ER. At about 8:45 Saturday morning I had to go upstairs to help Eleanor in the bathroom and Miriam followed me up the stairs. I didn't see what happened, but I heard a fall of some sort and then the crying wherein you instantly know that something horrible has happened. She had made it almost to the top of the steps when she must have tripped going up and her bottom teeth went into her top lip. There was blood everywhere. Michael had just left for work and I grabbed her and put a washcloth to her mouth and then ran down and called Michael. I was pretty sure we needed to go to the ER because there was a pretty significant chunk of skin hanging from her lip. It was all on the inside of the top lip...so, cosmetically she was fine. To make a long story short (sort of!) we were in the ER for 5 hours and she needed to be seen by a facial trama surgeon and be sedated to repair the lip. It required 4 stitches.

I took these pictures right when she came home from the ER. Eleanor and Michael didn't have to be at the ER the whole time, so he actually took her to work with him (she loved watching the Annie auditions!). Eleanor wanted to get Mim a balloon, so they ran to HyVee to pick one out.

The lip has healed nicely and she handled the whole thing extremely well. She was a dream in the ER and almost got shy. We were there for 5 hours and she didn't have a thing to eat or drink because they knew that they would have to sedate her - thank God for the TV & Elmo DVDs they had! All the doctors and nurses were great too. Although, we're not excited to get that ER bill! Oh well...we're just so glad it wasn't any worse. There was a car accident involving a child while we were there (hence such a delay in our care) and it does make you truly thankful that your kids are happy & healthy. Let's pray that it stays that way!
